The Severn Estuary Big Beach Clean 2025

The Severn Estuary Big Beach Clean 2025

The Severn Estuary Big Beach Clean is back this September, and we’re calling on communities, volunteers, schools, and organisations to get involved! Running from the 19th to the 28th of September 2025, the event is part of a wider national effort, aligning with the Marine Conservation Society’s Great British Beach Clean and Keep Wales Tidy’s Marine Clean Cymru. We’re also working alongside the Welsh Partnership of Marine Protected Areas to help safeguard the unique environments that make the Severn Estuary so special.

Whether you’re based along the coast, near a river, or inland, you can play a part in helping to spruce up the Severn. Join a public event or set up your own clean in your local area – every piece of litter removed helps protect wildlife, improve water quality, and enhance the natural environment in this incredible estuary. You can find the map of existing beach clean events, links to our social media, and helpful resources from the Marine Conservation Society further down this web page. Let’s make 2025 our most successful Big Beach Clean yet!

For tips on setting up your own clean, head to our litter pick portal and the Marine Conservation Society website. Remember to register your clean on the Marine Conservation Society website. MCS have some great resources on their website for beach clean organisers and hold training sessions for beach clean organisers, so we advise attending before the big day.

If you run into any issues or need some extra support, get in touch by emailing Severn@cardiff.ac.uk.

Take a look at our map of events below and sign up to one of the public cleans.

The Severn Estuary Big Beach Clean is just around the corner, and we need your help to spread the word. Every share on social media brings us one step closer to a cleaner, healthier coastline. Rally your friends, family, and community to take part in this important event. Share the event details, use #SpruceUpTheSevern, and let’s make a splash in the fight against marine litter!

Check out the map below to see your nearest clean! The map will be updated as new cleans are registered, so keep an eye out for events near you! Red markers are private cleans, but green markers are public so click on the link to sign up to your local green markers!

For two weeks this autumn, the Big Cardiff Tidy will be taking place across the capital, led by Keep Wales Tidy, Love Where You Live and the Cardiff Rivers Group.

Did you know that there are angling line recycling pipe bins set up around the estuary? Take a look at our online map to see if there is one near you. Drop angling line into your local bin and it will be recycled, helping to reduce the amount of plastic waste entering the Severn Estuary.
